What is a Grizzly bear?
Grizzly bears are large powerful bears. They live in North America, (mostly in the north western part of the United States, Canada, and Alaska). They are also found in eastern Russia.

Grizzly bears have large humps on their shoulders, and very long claws. Their snouts are wide and raise above their foreheads. They have short rounded ears.
Height: 3-5 feet to their shoulder. 7-9 feet when they stand on their hind legs
Weight: 200-1100 pounds
Color: very dark brown to almost black

In the wild, Grizzly bears eat mostly grasses, leaves, berries, and roots. They also eat salmon and small mammals like rodents to help fatten them up for the winter months.

Black bears are a very intellegent curious bear. They are smaller than Grizzly and Polar bears. They live mostly in forest where there is a good supply of vegetation, trees, and shrubs. However, they can also be found in the swamplands of the southeastern United States and the scrublands of the southwest.
What do they look like?
Black bears have a straight line from the snout to the head with longer pointed ears than a grizzly bear.
Height: 2.5 - 3.5 to the shoulder. They are about 4-5 feet tall when standing on their hind legs.
Weight:
An adult male can be between 150-600 pounds. Females with cubs can weigh 90-300 pounds.
Color:
In the eastern part of North America, most black bears are black. In parts of the western states, there are some black bears that are a brownish color. If you see a brownish bear in the wild, be sure to look at the shape of its head and body to determine whether it is a grizzly or a black bear.

Polar Bears are the largest of all bears. They live in cold climates like the North Pole, Canada, and Alaska.
What do they look like?
Polar Bears have very large bodies, with a small head and long neck. This is so they can put their heads into a seal hole to catch them. They also have a long snout and a super sense of smell. They have very large feet with membrane between their toes so they can use them to paddle when they swim long distances to hunt for food.
Height: A polar bear can be 12 feet tall if he stands on his hind legs.
Weight: A male polar bear can be between 800-1400 pounds. Females are usually smaller between 400-650 pounds.
